What I'm reading, planning, buying, watching & more
I’m officially declaring April 1, 2024 the start of my ‘new year.’ Q1 was challenging for a number of reasons, but now that we’re a couple of weeks into April, I’m feeling a renewed sense of energy and excitement.
Which I guess explains the origins of this Substack… I’m excited to use this platform and try out a few things. We’ll see what sticks.
Let’s start off by recapping my current obsessions, interests, books, shows and more.

Reading
Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
I’ve seen this book all over TikTok, but it was the recommendation by NewlyNova that made me add to my TBR. I think she gave it 3 stars, which is probably where I’ll net out. I’m about 75% through and it is … bonkers. The premise is that two serial killers (who only kill other serial killers) start an annual killing competition and then fall in love?! I guess I should have known what to expect. It is crazy, but I don’t hate it.
Watching
Survivor 46
As a lifelong survivor fan (who has seen every episode), I’m obviously tuning in weekly for season 46. I’ve been really frustrated with this cast, but this week’s episode may have been a turning point. The players are messy and confused, but you can’t say that they aren’t in it to win it. Plus, the chaos does make for good TV, even if I don’t really connect with any of the players. I’m rooting for Tiff and Hunter currently, but who knows how things will play out. For better or for worse, I’ll be watching every episode no matter what happens.
Buying
Madewell 30% off sale
I can’t resist an extra 30% off sale at Madewell. The minute the email hit my inbox, I jumped to the site and added a few things to my cart. They’ll be delivered next week and I’m hoping for some winners.
Planning
Rob & Matt’s black tie wedding
Two of my friends are getting married in Charlotte next weekend and the dress code is black tie. I’ve been struggling to figure out my overall look, but luckily Nuuly had some good options that I was able to add to my box this month. I am anxiously awaiting their arrival and hope that one dress will work out. Fingers crossed!
I also made an appointment for a spray tan and am thinking through my plans for hair, nails, makeup. Will I be brave enough to try an updo from a YouTube video? Time will tell.
